This is because they offer protection to an individual, by reducing their risk of infection or the severity of their symptoms, and also at a population level, referred to as population-immunity. The vaccination programme is a priority in the fight to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The COVID-19 vaccine costs will be covered as a Prescribed Minimum Benefit. Medical Schemes will cover the costs of the vaccine in full, and expenses will not be deducted from the member’s medical savings account or day-to-day benefits.
